Phosphatidylserine (PS), naturally abundant in the brain, participates in communication between millions of nerve cells. Scientific and clinical studies have shown that PS has a beneficial action on cerebral functions such as concentration, memorisation, the capacity for thinking and above all the maintenance of cognitive functions in the elderly.
Only trace amounts of phosphatidylserine, present in large quantities in the brain, are supplied by food. It is an essential nutrient, especially when cerebral functions begin to decline with age.
The development by Cargill of Leci-PS™, an oral preparation, provides an opportunity to supply the body with a substance essential for the proper functioning of the brain. Leci-PS™ is a concentrated form of phosphatidylserine (PS) obtained from soy lecithin.
Leci-PS™ has a broad spectrum of actions to preserve all the brain’s youth and vitality! It improves brain glucose metabolism and stimulates the synthesis and release of acetylcholine in the brain, facilitating effects on signal transduction (Fe - PKC). It increases receptor functions, stimulates ion pump activity and reverses age-related nerve cell dendrite (neurone) loss.
Administered orally, it is absorbed easily into the blood and reaches the brain rapidly to act essentially on cell membranes. Its effect is first seen a few weeks after starting to take the supplement, and its action continues for several weeks after the end of treatment.
On a broader medical level, several studies have shown that PS can be useful against memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease and age-related depression.1
