Liquid crystals are neither entirely liquid nor entirely solid. They flow like liquids but possess some of the properties of crystalline solids.
The molecular structure of the cell membrane is arranged in the form of liquid crystals. Lipids in the extracellular matrix of the skin also have a three-dimensional structure.
Given this extremely high structural affinity, the topical intake of liquid crystals can strengthen and repair the hydrolipidic film of the epidermis with remarkable results.
On this basis, the B&T Company has developed OLIVEM®1000 Crystal Skin™– a complex combination of fatty acids extracted from olives and possessing numerous beneficial properties: - It slows down the appearance of fine lines and improves the elasticity of the skin thanks to its moisturising, restructuring and toning effects. - It also strengthens the skin barrier and limits the risk of penetration of external elements (allergens and pollutants, etc.), hence it has a protective, soothing effect that is particularly suitable for “sensitive skin” care products.
OLIVEM®1000 Crystal Skin™ can surround droplets of oil in order to improve their ability to disperse. Optimised distribution of organic sun filters on the skin has also been observed, thus generating a “SPF booster” effect.
